'BOOK TASMANIA’ - Media Release
18/07/2006

A new online booking system ‘Book Tasmania’ was launched today to assist Tasmanian tourism operators in promoting their business online.

Officially launching the system at the Tasmanian Tourism Conference in Inveresk, Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment Paula Wriedt said that the new technology based booking platform will be very advantageous to small to medium tourism businesses.

“’Book Tasmania’ will allow small to medium tourism businesses, which make-up the majority of our industry, promote their business in ways they could not have achieved previously on their own,” she said.

“It will provide greater reach and marketing power in getting more of Tasmania’s quality tourism experiences to a wider consumer base.

“This can sometimes be an obstacle for smaller operators, however training in use of the software is being provided free of charge, which is fantastic news for those businesses.”

“The main benefits will be ‘real time’ booking and the support of a business management system as part of the software to assist these businesses.”

Ms Wriedt said that ‘Book Tasmania’ is an initiative of Tasmanian-based company Intuit Technologies.

“It is very pleasing to see the private sector – particularly a Tasmanian company – investing in the State’s tourism industry,” she said.
